An expert in the field of Community Physiotherapy and Health Promotion in Nigeria and Dean of the newly established Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at the Kaduna State University, Professor Adamu Ahmad Rufa’i, described the recent award of the Fellow of Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (FNSP) conferred on him by the umbrella organisation of Physiotherapists in Nigeria, the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) as both challenging and motivating.

Professor Adamu Ahmad Rufa’i made this known when he spoke to journalists in Kaduna shortly after receiving the award given to him by the society.
“The award is such a special one and so dear to me, considering that it is the highest honor a Physiotherapist will receive from the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy. I was selected among many and therefore, I am honored. This has spurred me on as a Physiotherapist to continue to give my best to the Profession in particular and humanity in general”.
The Professor emphasised the lack of health professionals in general and Physiotherapists in particular, hence, they are hot cakes being sought for all over the world. “Considering the scope of practice and value addition to life, I can categorically tell you everybody needs Physiotherapy.
“Physiotherapy is about one’s independence in carrying out one’s day-to-day affairs; therefore, movement and functional activity is our business. Because of the high demand many of the students we taught have crossed to the other side where pastures are green and are doing exceptionally well. We chose to remain here to build the younger generation with passion, and as patriots, contribute in our little way to the growth of Nigeria”.
Professor Rufa’i described Physiotherapy practice as divine. He stated that although very old profession, Physiotherapy is still new as the awareness is still not much. The Awardee who happens to be the first Professor of Physiotherapy from North of the river Niger called on students to consider it a privilege to be admitted to study Physiotherapy and hence, work hard and persevere as Physiotherapy training and practice requires total commitment”, he said.
Professor Adamu Ahmad Rufa’i uses this opportunity to express his sincere appreciation to the National President of the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy, Dr. (Mrs) Nina Nnenna Chigbo, and her Executive Council for finding him worthy, to be conferred with the highest award for Physiotherapist in Nigeria.
